Abstract
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) have emerged as a revolutionary wireless communication technology that enables mobile devices to communicate without relying on fixed infrastructure. In a MANET, mobile nodes dynamically establish wireless links and cooperate with one another to transmit data across the network. Each node acts as both a host and a router, forwarding packets to other nodes when necessary. Due to their self-configuring and decentralized nature, MANETs are suitable for environments where rapid deployment and flexible communication are required. These networks are widely used in military operations, disaster recovery, healthcare systems, vehicular communication, and Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Despite their advantages, MANETs face challenges such as dynamic topology, limited bandwidth, security vulnerabilities, and energy constraints. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of MANET architecture, characteristics, routing protocols, security issues, applications, challenges, and future developments. The study also discusses emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and 5G integration that are expected to enhance MANET performance in future wireless communication systems.
